losing weight and eating better

The time has come for me to get rid of this excess weight I have hanging around on my body.  How much you say?  Well I would like to get rid of 40 lbs.  Yes 40.  That is A LOT!  But it's my own fault.   I am an emotional eater.  I don't just eat whatever is around, I eat sweets.  Cookies, candy, non diet pop, and anything else with sugar in it.

Last year (January) at work we had a "Biggest Loser" competition.  Those who decided to partake had to pay $25.  There was an initial weigh in on the day the money was due and then a weekly weigh in every Friday.  The first week I lost 5lbs.  After that my weight steadily dropped I was in the lead of every week.  I used the help of a website to keep track of every single little thing I was eating and it calculated everything for me.  By the end of the 8 weeks I lost 12 lbs!  I lost the highest percentage of weight and won $275!!!  I did good for a few months keeping the weight off but then something happened.  I was depressed about some stuff for a while last year and steadily ate my way into gaining 20 lbs.  If I could kick myself I would.  After losing that 12 lbs I felt better.  I was happier.  I could fit in my clothes better.  I can still wear the same clothes but they are pretty snug.  And just remembering how they use to fit pisses me off.

SO...as of Monday I have started my new eating ways again.  It's not fun of course but I know that it will work.  In order for me to stay on track with my eating I have to eat basically the same.thing.every.day.  Here is a short rundown of what I have to eat...

Breakfast =  Special K Berries (or WalMart brand) cereal OR Oatmeal

Lunch = 45 calorie/slice whole grain bread with Miracle Whip Lite and 1 package Carl Buddig lunch meat, Baked Lays, Fruit, Veggie.

Dinner = whatever we have only a much smaller portion and no 2nd helping.

I have to say I am proud that I thought to take some frozen broccoli to work in a little container, microwave it with a little water to steam it and sprinkle on some salt and pepper!  If I take FRESH veggies (carrots/broccoli) I will have to eat them with lots Ranch and that is just not acceptable for what I am trying to achieve.

Oh and I did weigh myself on Monday and I have now lost 2 lbs.  It isn't much BUT I have stayed at pretty much the same weight with out any fluctuaion for quite a while so this is a move in the right direction!

Now I just need to get some exercise and that is a whole other issue!

Sending you good workout vibes your way :) I took this week off and have to kick my bootay into gear next week. Sometimes I wonder if it's really worth it, then I see pre-pregnancy pictures and remind myself that it is. Sheesh.

I am trying to get back into my loosing weight routine again too. I got Ryan to loose some weight while he was home by him eating more than one meal a day and just making the portions smaller. He lost at least 7 lbs. I wish ya luck.

That is awesome Ashley!
I am happy for you to make that choice and sticking with it.

Don't know if you want some of my advice???
But it starts of with your shopping trip to the grocery store - discipline yourself and do not buy things you crave. Write a list and stick to it.

Getting rid of wheat (even whole wheat) is huge milestone against weight gain. Wheat turns to glucose (sugar) in your body so try looking for maybe rye breads - or try eating less bread altogether. And switch wheat pastas to rice pastas. Tastes and looks the same but so much better for you.

And switching white potatoes to sweet potatoes (or mixing them) is also awesome to reduce the starches your family is eating. I say family as a healthier diet is great for everyone not just someone who's looking to loose weight.

And Yes. Please eat those broccolis raw!
;) Good luck honey!!!
